Dental Implants at Isabella Avenue Dentistry

Isabella Avenue Dentistry

If you have a missing tooth due to an impact injury, periodontal disease, or tooth decay, a dental implant is the best way to replace it and restore your natural smile.

Using advanced, minimally invasive restorative dentistry, Dr. Leslie Strommer at Isabella Avenue Dentistry can provide you with a beautiful, long-lasting dental solution. Read on to learn more about dental implants, and see if this service is right for you!

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are a permanent solution for missing teeth. Unlike other forms of dental restoration, such as dentures and dental bridges, dental implants offer unmatched security and functionality. They feel just like your natural teeth!

Dental implants are made up of two parts: a post and a crown. The post is made of titanium or zirconium, and is implanted directly into the gum and jawbone. This mimics the natural tooth root and keeps the dental implant strong. A crown is then manufactured to mimic the appearance and functionality of the original tooth. It is then permanently attached to this post to provide a permanent tooth restoration.

How Does the Dental Implant Process Work?

Generally, a dental implant requires at least two visits to Isabella Avenue Dentistry, as well as an initial consultation to determine if a dental implant is the right solution for you.

During your first visit, the post will be implanted into the gum and jaw tissue where your original tooth used to be. This is usually done under IV sedation or general anesthesia. After the post has been implanted, it will have to heal for a period of three to six months.

While healing, the post will permanently bond to the surrounding tissue and jaw. When the bonding process is complete, you’ll come back to Dr. Leslie Strommer to finish the procedure.

At the second visit, Dr. Strommer will attach a porcelain dental crown directly to the post. The crown will be manufactured to mimic the exact shape, appearance, and function of your original tooth, and it will be bonded into place with a permanent dental adhesive.

What Are the Benefits of Dental Implants?

Dental implants have quite a few benefits compared to other methods of restoring missing teeth.

Totally natural appearance – Properly placed, your dental implant will be totally indistinguishable from a natural tooth. And it’ll feel like a natural tooth, too.

Reduces tooth shifting – Without treatment, missing teeth will cause your other teeth to shift and “close the gap.” This can lead to a variety of dental issues. However, a dental implant prevents this from occurring.

Lasts for a lifetime with proper care – Most missing tooth treatment options are not as permanent as a dental implant. Dental bridges will last about ten years, and dentures may require replacement due to jawbone deterioration. However, dental implants can easily last an entire lifetime, as long as a high level of oral hygiene is maintained.

No special treatments needed – You can care for your dental implant just as you would care for a natural tooth. Brush, floss, use mouthwash, and all! As long as your oral care routine is good, you won’t have to change a thing!
